The Seasonal Shift

A little summer, a little fall

This time of year is all about finding the happy middle ground.

Summer plants may still be adding colour to your containers, while fall favourites are beginning to appear. Your garden may have tomatoes and herbs growing alongside newly planted perennials. Your porch might have a bright petunia basket beside a warm-toned mum. There’s no need to choose one season over the other.

As we gently wrap up summer stock, it’s a great time to take one more look at your outdoor spaces:

  • Refresh a tired patio pot with a new combination of plants.
  • Replace a plant that didn’t make it through the summer.
  • Add a few mums for instant seasonal colour.
  • Move containers closer to your entrance for a welcoming fall display.
  • Take stock of empty spaces where a tree, shrub, or perennial could go.
  • Enjoy the last blooms of your geraniums and petunias before the first frost.

There are still plenty of ways to make your garden beautiful right now. A visit to Family Flowers can help you find the plants, pottery, and inspiration to bridge the seasons with ease.

The Second Planting Season Begins

Many gardeners think of spring as the main planting season, but fall has plenty to offer too.

Next week, we’ll be putting the spotlight on the second planting season for trees, shrubs, and perennials. With cooler temperatures on the way, fall can be a wonderful time to plan new additions to your landscape and give them time to settle in before winter.

Whether you’re dreaming about a flowering shrub, a shade tree, or a few hardy perennials, our team can help you think through the best options for your space.

You don’t have to be an experienced gardener to get started. Bring your questions. Our friendly team is always happy to offer approachable plant-care advice.
