Dracaena arborea, or African dragon tree, is an evergreen native to tropical western Africa, recognizable by its tall woody trunk and crown of long, dagger-shaped leaves. Young plants start single-stemmed and branch with maturity. It thrives in bright, indirect light resembling its natural dappled forest environment; low light slows growth and causes leaning, while direct sun can damage foliage. Maintain consistently moist soil, allowing the top 1–2 inches to dry between waterings to prevent overwatering and root rot. This species combines striking form with manageable care for indoor settings.
