‘Giant Pascal’, also known as ‘Pascal Giant’, is a French variety heirloom which grows 2 feet high and has light green leaves and 2 inches thick stems with a nutty flavor. Celery is a biennial generally grown as an annual.
Light requirements Full sun for best yields.
Soil requirements requires deep, well drained soil with plenty of organic matter and a pH between 6.5 and 7.5.
Water requirements Make sure the plants are watered adequately, or they will become hollow or dry. Celery is a very thirsty plant, and must have a strong continuous supply of water. Mid-season fertilization will also help.
Frost-fighting plan A light frost damages plants. If a surprise late spring frost comes into the forecast, protect newly planted seedlings with a frost blanket.
Common issues Be on the lookout for slugs, and place beer traps if they become a problem. Insecticidal soap can discourage aphids.
