Long grass like leaves from a bulb or cloves that is covered in a dried white paper membrane. Produces a cluster of white flowers. Prefers well turned, rich, moist, sandy soil.
Harvest when flowers and leaves die back, remove bulbs from soil and hang to dry in an airy place. Use fresh leaves as seasoning. Crushed cloves are almost indispensable in culinary cooking. Natural flavouring for cooking and salt reduced diets.
