Juniper plants thrive in Southwestern Ontario when given full sun and well-draining, sandy, or rocky soil. Water deeply 2-3 times weekly during the first year; established plants are highly drought-tolerant and need water only during prolonged dry spells. Prune lightly in early spring to maintain shape—avoid cutting into old brown wood. Container junipers need winter protection from root freeze; move to an unheated garage or mulch pots heavily. Apply slow-release fertilizer in early spring if desired. Ideal for ground cover, privacy screens, rock gardens, and hot, dry spots.
